*A submission on The Ritual of The Cooking of the Pasta on Friday*
Repeat after me:
"Canned is bad. Fresh is good. Chef Boyardee is for emergency purposes *only*."
Do the Catholic priests open up a can of worship? No.
Do the Rabbi's bless with pre-made prayer; just heat 'n' serve? No.
Do the Voodoun Priests/esses use a pre-killed frozen chicken? No.
Do the math.
-Ritual garb should be: your favourite shirt and pants. You know, the ones you just can't bring yourself to throw out but you don't really mind if you get food splatters all over them.
-No TV. This is a family affair. Choose energetic music that everybody likes.
-Every person chooses at least one of the ingredients. Every person contributes to the cooking/stirring/preparation. Wee ones can stir. Older ones can chop. Biggest ones can cook.
-As each person contributes to the cooking/stirring/preparation, they should talk to each other about the things they love about themselves, and their family. This is the 'special sauce' that is being cooked into the food. Open your hearts and add the love.
-When eating, everyone sits around the table (NO TV!) and shares their past week, talks about what they plan for the weekend, etc.
-Pass the (root)beer, please.
As a Pagan, I thought it would be kinda cute to come up with a "Ritual of the Cooking of the Pasta'. This is a rough draft; I'll put up the finished product when I've done it.

You've got it backwards... spices are good feelings for your food!
Seriously, though, I cooked up a feast last weekend and was SO HAPPY to flex the old food creativity muscle and share it with friends. I even managed to get one interested in the FSM.
And I now have a badass new recipe for Smoked Tomato Bruschetta with Lox (fried caper garnish).
