The 'find more music' thread
Basically, I want more music in a certain genre. The basic idea is that someone posts a musical genre they need, followed by a few suggestions and then a new genre etc.
To start this off, I want more pop-punk in the early 90's mould please, it's perfect for long distance exercise. We're talking Dookie-era Green Day and Ignition-era Offspring here, maybe a bit of mid-Sum-41, please no Avril Lavigne unless it's good (and I haven't heard good stuff any so far). Bands, albums and individual songs are all welcome.

Early 90's pop-punk? Have you heard Civ?

They have a half-good first album (as in, literally every other song is dull, this is made up by the remaining songs being great), and their second album 15-Day Getaway is great.
Ned's Atomic Dustbin. Such a underrated band. All of their albums are great, but God Fodder and Brainbloodvolume I play the often-ist.

Re: The 'find more music' thread
I don't know all their discography or where they fit into the genre you're describing, but Bad Religion comes to mind when I think of 90s punk.
I'm always looking for more pirate music, but it's not really one genre so much as pirate metal + Flogging Molly/Dropkick Murphys/Pogues/Real McKenzies type bands + POTC and other pirate adventure movie themes + traditional sea shanties (Great Big Sea is great for these) + any genre as long as the song is nautical or about pirates.

Re: The 'find more music' thread
I only have Bad Religion's two albums prior to their latest ("The Empire Strikes First" and "New Maps of Hell"), but those and the few other songs by them I've heard have cemented them as one of my favorite bands. I listen to them frequently when I go for brisk walks. I don't know how "pop" they are, but they're more "pop" than, say, The Ramones or the Sex Pistols. They're very melodic.
I don't know what The Decemberists are doing nowadays, but toward the beginning at least they did all their music in the style of sea chanteys, and at least one is actually nautical-themed. I can't listen to it though. It depresses me too much. Very depressing lyrics, romanticizing suicide, etc. Not something a person like me ought to be listening to. But I've heard a few of their songs, and they've very chantey-esque.

Nope but I'm going to be adding some now. That's exactly the sort of stuff I was looking for, loud, simple and catchy

Also good

Anything anyone can recommend in the vein of NOFX circa Thanks For All The Fish? Bad Religion are good but not really fast enough for what I want, it's almost more spoken word than fast-paced with Greg Graffin's vocals and the rest of the music matches that.
Qwerty, have you tried some of the Dubliners' stuff? Failing that some Thin Lizzy might work for what you want.

I am finally discovering 'The Pixies'. Were they early 90's?

Late 80s, early 90s I think. They had a real underground following at the time, but never had a hit single, didn't get much airplay in the UK. A lot of musicians rated them, though.black bart wrote:I am finally discovering 'The Pixies'. Were they early 90's?

I suppose if we are sticking to the original brief, I shoud recommend anything by Frank Black, Black Francis (same guy), The Breeders, Sebadoh, oh I dunno... Television? Smashing Pumpkins? Devo? iTunes Genius also recommends Fugazi and The Replacements, if you're interested.
(Mostly I listen to Foo Fighters at the gym, and Radio 4 or Radio Scotland at home. I spent a lot of the late 80s and early 90s out of my tits and therefore can't remember where I was, let alone what I was listening to at the time.)

Re: The 'find more music' thread
Anyone have any suggestions for good industrial music from the last decade? Especially stuff that explores outside the limits of traditional industrial (like MSI, Doctor Steel, maybe even some electronic dance stuff that ventures into that territory, like Justice). Not stuff that's trying to sound like a carbon copy of Nitzer Ebb or Skinny Puppy.

Some people in America classify Rammstein as industrial metal, although they classify themselves as Neue Deutsche Härte. They're one of my favorite bands. They're the other band, beside Bad Religion, that I listen to a lot when I walk, especially if I'm angry.

Yeah, I'm aware of Rammstein. Had one of their albums back in the 90's. Plus, they're a tad derivative themselves, largely of Ministry.

Rammstein are great. Ever since I heard Sonne on Kerrang TV many years ago, which is when it first came out, I knew I had to get that album. I second the suggestion for them, as they are great for walking or marching to*.
Seeing as a German band were mentioned, I think you'd like Kraftwerk too. They are definitely different to what you want, but I think you may enjoy listening to them.
*See if you can get hold of the uncut version of their video "Pussy". It's extremely notty, and by notty I mean Hardcore Porn. Seriously. You see everything you would in a commercial porn film. Apparently...

Ah Kraftwerk...where would we be without the Great Kraftwerk.
