Irreligious Joke

Postby Duke » Tue Aug 29, 2006 9:05 pm

A man joins a monastery, far away in desolate and isolated mountains. But he must hold a vow of silence for many years. But every year, he is allowed to write one word on a board.

The first year passes. He does well acclimating himself to not speaking. At last, the end of the year comes, and he writes the word "The" on the board.

The second year passes. He holds his resolve, but he is relieved when he may write his word on the board. He writes the word, "food".

The third year passes, and although he has kept his vow, it has become mentally painful to remain silent. But, finally, the year ends, and he writes his word on the board, and the word is "sucks." Another monk comes up to him and says, "What the hell is wrong with you, you've been here three years, and all you've done is complain!!!"

"In the first place, God made idiots. That was for practice. Then he made school boards."

--Mark Twain

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

--Friedrich Nietzsche

"If it turns out that there is a God, I don't think that he's evil. But the worst that you can say about him is that basically he's an underachiever."

--Woody Allen
