Not likely, that seemed to involve paying attention.

I notice the puddy tat seems to have given up with the bus diagram and homeopathic tea puzzles, if Whiskas could carry on ignoring it for another few years that would be lovely :idiot:

Roving Punster wrote:The most likely solution seems to be that the function 'f' appears to be defined as the number of enclosed spaces present in each letter, thus lower case 'g' in calibri is 2 ('II' in roman numeral notation), 'g' in arial is 1 ('I' in roman numeral notation), capital "G" is nil, "B" is 2 and "A" is 1, et al. Since 'g' is defined as 2 rather than 1, that implies calibri is an FSM friendly font.

The exercises all devolve to straight forward substitution and arithmetic, followed by conversion of the results into roman numeral notation.

If you're going to go solving things that will take all the fun out of the thread :haha:

Here's an easy one:

There are 5 houses in 5 different colors.
In each house lives a person with a different nationality.
These 5 owners drink a certain beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar and keep a certain pet.
No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same drink.
Hints:
The Brit lives in a red house.
The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
The Dane drinks tea.
The green house is on the left of the white house.
The green house owner drinks coffee.
The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill.
The man living in the house right in the center drinks milk.
The Norwegian lives in the first house.
The man who smokes Blend lives next to the one who keeps cats.
The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
The owner who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
The German smokes Prince.
The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
The man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water.

Question:
Can you determine who keeps fish?

That would be the coffee swilling, Prince smoking German living in the green house at No 4 United Nations Crescent.

I must protest, my answer cannot be right. All the Germans I know swill beer not coffee.

Actually, the correct answer is "No". There is no mention of anyone keeping fish in the initial parameters. From the information given, you can determine that the German MAY keep fish, but there's nothing that requires it - he is just as likely to have a pet Komodo Dragon, or a narwhal, or he may keep bees.

I think you're fully correct on that point. However, the way the problem is worded clearly invites the reader to assume that by process of elimination the missing pet preference info for the 5th person corresponds to the fish in the question. If there's a better answer, I'd enjoy seeing it.

Got another puzzle, or should I create one ?
