Pentangle founder, singer and guitarist John Renbourn, 70, heart attack.

The police broke down his door after he failed to show up for a gig.

Way to go...

End of an era.
"How is it that hardly any major religion has looked at science and concluded, 'This is better than we thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander, more subtle, more elegant. God must be even greater than we dreamed'? Instead they say, 'No, no, no! My god is a little god, and I want him to stay that way.'" - Carl Sagan

Never mind, there will be another era along in a minute. Can you imagine the plaudits and outpourings when Dedmau5, Skrillex or the Orbital brothers die?

That's the funny thing about musical eras, we don't really know who the great ones will be of them until the era's already passed. Who would have known in the 80's that U2 would become the biggest band in the world, and Duran Duran would become a trivia question?

Hopefully this isn't too distasteful but I'm going to interpret the previous post as a response to PK's question. Will have to re-watch A Beautiful Mind, saw it when I was too wee to appreciate it, though I definitely remember key shots and scenes from it.

Hammer Horror actor, Saruman, and Count Dooku Christopher Lee, 93, he was old.

Influential jazz saxophonist Ornette Coleman, 85, he was old.

Oliver! actor Ron Moody, 91, he was old.

It's a fucking conspiracy against old people!

Aaargh!
That wounds me heart to hear he's gone. I loved to watch he and Mrs. Peel matchin' wits wit da ner-do-wells on the telly as a youthful squirt...
I'm proud to be sayin' that I was fortunate enough to work with the man back in the year nineteen hundred and eighty eight on a motion picture what took place in Italy.
Cheers to his salty old soul! :drinking:

Nicholas Winton, 106.

Sir Nicholas Winton organised, almost singlehandedly, the Czech Kindertransport, bringing Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, where they would have been deported to the death camps, to safety in the UK. In the first eight months of 1939, eight trains left Prague taking 669 children to safety. A ninth train was due to leave Prague on 1 September 1939, the day Germany invaded Poland and triggered the outbreak of World War Two. The train was cancelled and almost none of the children on it survived the Holocaust.

Winton told no-one about his pre-war heroism. It was not until 1988, when his wife discovered an old scrapbook in the attic, which contained a containing a mass of documents, including the names of the rescued children, that his story came out.

Winton was was knighted in recognition of his efforts on the Kindertransport. He was also awarded the Order of the White Lion, the Czech Republic's highest decoration. He was also nominated by the Czech government for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize.

This statue stands in Prague Station as a testament to Sir Nicholas Winton's actions
