I know that's how it's reported and it is technically true but calling him that is like calling Osama Bin Laden a motivational speaker.

It's true he was involved in the IRA and was involved in some of their atrocities, but it's also true that he also helped drive the Irish peace process, and after the Good Friday Agreement, worked as a politician with politicians from the other side of the sectarian divide (who until then were his enemies) to make that peace process work. We shouldn't lose sight of both of those facts.

OK then, Colin Dexter was a Classics teacher.

Yes, he was. The same way Martin McGuinness was a murdering terrorist.

Well, yes, he told PIRA to stop murdering policemen, soldiers, prison officers, women, children and anyone else that happened to be nearby. Attacks he had ordered over the previous decades. To use someone else's metaphor, it's like congratulating a burglar for not burgling your house any more.

I think this is going to be an 'agree to disagree' situation but I'm with Norman Tebbit on this one.

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."

Chris Cornell, grunge singer with Soundgarden and later Audioslave.

I was never a big Soundgarden fan but the work he did with Audioslave was awesome, it was Rage mk 2 with snarling sung vocals rather than rap. This is probably one of the better examples of the new direction they took.

Peter Sallis is a great loss - a brilliant comedian. But cheer up, there's a rumour that they've signed William Hague to play Wallace.

Are you mad? '14 pints a day' Hague compared to Sallis? I'll be launching footwear at the telly inside 5 minutes.

Bodger was a decent bloke, I remember watching that when I came in from school with my younger brother. Hardly amazing art but funny.

That sounds like an older version of Jeff Dunham.

Damn...

He wasn't half as annoying as the rest of them.

That's the one.
