Gary Carter, Major League Baseball Catcher, Member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Member of the '86 World Series Championship New York Mets. 57. Brain Tumor.

The whole 1986 team holds a special place in all Mets fans' hearts. It's a heavy loss for the team, the city, and the sport.

MC5 bass player Michael Davis, 68, liver failure.

I love how the BBC totally skirts around the prominent use of one of George Carlin's seven words in MC5's signature tune. Bet it won't get played on the radio, though...

War correspondent Marie Colvin. Also French photographer Remi Ochlik. They were 'in her 50s' and 28 respectively, killed by the Syrian government shelling the city of Homs.

Not only was Colvin a great journalist (despite working for a Murdoch paper), she had great pirate credentials:

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."

poor Davy Jones.

It all takes me back to when I was a lad...the Monkeys, The Banana Splits, Batman...no wonder I turned out weird!
The smoke wafted gently in the breeze across the poop deck and all seemed right in the world.

Nobody's going to make the obvious joke... :bummer:

Bart, you liked the Banana Splits? Try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAriBpcE6FY

It's a cover of "I Enjoy Being A Boy (In Love With You)" by They Might Be Giants. I suggest you ignore the dork lip syncing in the video and just listen to the song. :moon:
