The 'Insult a Scotsman' Game.

How about "not half as bad as Coldplay?"

That's what I like to call 'praising with faint damnation'.

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."

I don't really look at Milo and Molly's facebook any more - too busy with music stuff.

Nice to see you got the details of the kit right, though...

Hey, Roy, drummer questions:

When I watch videos of drummers performing, it often looks like they're only playing half the strikes to me. I know hi-hats and bass drums typically have kick pedals, but is the same true of most of the rest of the kit too? That would possibly explain what I'm seeing; either that or my eyes just aren't fast enough.

Also, when you hit a drum, what is that called? Beat, note, strike, hit...?

I think what you are referring to is a double stroke. Most rudiments are made up of single, double and triple strokes. Four-, five- and six-stroke rolls are really just showboating. You can hit a drum once with the movement of your elbow and once with the movement of your wrist, much like you can play a pedal with your heel and toe in the same stroke. Look up 'double strokes' or 'snare rudiments' on YouTube - that should keep you amused for a year or so.

Um... So you're saying when I watch Moon playing on the Smothers Brothers, when it looks like he's only playing half the strokes, he's actually just using one movement of his arm for two strokes and it's too fast for me to observe with an untrained eye?

No, it's too fast to see on TV. Just like all other speed-related disciplines, there is competition and people cheat.

"The key to life is shaped like a drumstick," says the ad on that page.

Clearly, if you're a chicken, it's the opposite, right?
