Re: Favorite Monty Python Sketches and/or Scenes
Oh, man, so many choices. I definitely love the Dirthy Hungarian Phrasebook, and the first meeting with the French in Holy Grail. The Parrot sketch is classic, as is the Twit Olympics. The fish slapping dance is another good one, and I rather liked the part in Life of Brian when he pointed out the bush to the hungry people.

I'd have to say the Lumberjack skit, the Twit Olympics, Every Sperm Is Sacred, and The Funniest Joke In The World.

I was re-watching Flying Circus the other day. The Spam Song has been stuck in my herad every since.

The knights that say "nee", and the dead parrot sketch are the two that always come to mind, also the killer rabbit.

For a single sketch, it's either the fish slapping dance, man with a tape recorder up his nose (and his brother) or the philosophers football match.
"Nietzsche has just been booked for arguing with the referee, he accused Confucius of having no free will. And Confucius he say 'name go in book'"
"The Germans are disputing it! Hegel is arguing that the reality is merely an a priori adjunct of non-naturalistic ethics, Kant via the categorical imperative is holding that ontologically it exists only in the imagination and Marx is claiming it's offside!"
Life of Brian is probably the most quotable film I've seen (with the Holy Grail coming a close second). Who can deny the genius of "I'm Brian and so's my wife!"

I'd never seen the Philosopher's World Cup before, but that was brilliant. New favorite, by virtue of making me choke on my coffee.

One of my favorites that's more on the obscure end is the "Mystico and Janet - Flats Built by Hypnosis" sketch. The magician Mystico (played by Terry Jones) creates high-rise apartment buildings through parlor magic. People can live in the buildings, so long as they believe the buildings are real; the moment they start to think it's an illusion, the buildings start to fall down.
Besides being rather funny, it serves as a rather nice metaphor for our current economic problems.

"How is it that hardly any major religion has looked at science and concluded, 'This is better than we thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander, more subtle, more elegant. God must be even greater than we dreamed'? Instead they say, 'No, no, no! My god is a little god, and I want him to stay that way.'" - Carl Sagan

Re: Favorite Monty Python Sketches and/or Scenes
Python still surprises me, years after I've seen all they'd produced.
This year, I came to two more sudden stops.
The "world's most deadly joke" must have been an in-house stab at the bbc censors...A replacement sketch for one deemed too "risquee'" for airing on telly.
And in L.O.B. , the schism of the throng following brian out of the marketplace....Gourd or Shoe....Has to be the xian schism between those who interpret scripture literally, and those who read metaphorically.
Sat bolt upright in bed with that one...who beat me to it?

Why were you watching Monty Python in bed?
Mind you there is that scene with the Dirty Vicar.

One of the best books I've read was Philosophy and Monty Python. Excellent read. Perhaps something you would be interested in Mr. Worley?

I always Prefer To Let creative works stand alone, rather than read critiques, reviews, or analyses.
Like the Brian thing above, I was In bed, falling asleep, and mentally bitching about nazi asshattery, and was cheering myself up with remembered Irreverence From 'Brian'...
*lisping* "...In..wome"
The marketplace scene before the stoning came to mind, and the bearded ladies making up all of the 'stoners' made me chuckle(Notetoprimitivejerryspringeraudience: If you're real men', then why don't you fix your fear issues, instead of throwing stones?), then the gourd-shoe thing hit me like a brick of obvious, and I was up for another three hours, musing.(not code for watching porn)
