Re: RECIPES
Sounds yummy.
The Osso Buco came out well, but tasted nothing like I remember having years ago.
Mr. TS said it was "Different" when I asked how he liked it.
Translation: different = doesn't like

Not necessarily. I once managed to start a massive argument over dinner by asking 'What have you done to this chicken?' It turns out that can be interpreted as being insulting when I wanted to know why it tasted nice

I asked him, so in my case, it is so.

Fair enough

Is it possible or advisable to make a curry in a slow cooker?

Re: RECIPES
Curry spice flavours do not necessarily last well in slow cooking. If you slow cook your meat (especially lamb on the bone, or chicken legs) with tomatoes or onions or whatever, and then add your flavours at the end, you're probably onto a winner. Even if you use a jar of sauce, slow cook the meat with it, and add some garam masala and coriander leaf at the end to jazz it up.daftbeaker wrote:Is it possible or advisable to make a curry in a slow cooker?

Sorry - I gotta disagree. Curry in the slow cooker is much, much better as it gives all the spices a chance to really mellow and harmonise. Just make sure you're using a mix of individual spices, not boring curry powder. Its a similar reason why curry always tastes better reheated the next day.
The only exception to this is thai curries - make them quick and fresh.

Excellent. During Monkey I shall hijack my dad's slow cooker

It looks tempting, might be a bit expensive for me at the moment though. It's something to bear in mind when someone else is paying the bill though

I did that a few days before reading this post. I just got a slow cooker, and I'm trying all sorts of things in it to see what works. The only problem with the curry was that it was thinner than usual, due to none of the steam escaping. A little cornstarch took care of that though. UDK#1 ate it, even though it contained cabbage. (She is sure I am out to get her with the cabbage. She'll look suspiciously at dinner and say "You put cabbage in this, didn't you??!!")
Eisbein worked wonderfully in it, and I think I need to see how it does on beans next.

i don't think i'm ready to fool around with curry in it, but maybe some pork chops with mushrooms and white wine

Re: RECIPES
I've just torn the recipe for a Scotch Pie out of a newspaper...it looks easy enough...I'll let you know how I get on with it. There's lard in the mix of course (no mars bars though?).
The smoke wafted gently in the breeze across the poop deck and all seemed right in the world.

Re: RECIPES
You'll need to come to Firhill some time. The ony way to really enjoy a Scotch Pie properly is at half-time when you're being thrashed at home by St. Mirren or Morton. The overwhelming depression almost makes them edible.
