Did you know that James the IV of Scotland was the last British King to die in battle?

[pedant]Technically, the Union of England and Scotland didn't happen until 1603 when Liz the First popped her clogs so Jim (who died in 1513) was a Scottish king, not a British one.[/pedant]

Edit - It turns out technically Great Britain didn't exist until 1707, I have outpedanted myself

Simply: the crowns were united in 1603 in James VI and I. James never managed to unite the kingdoms, which finally happened in 1707 under Queen Anne.

You're talking cobblers, so the Scots aren't Britons? I think you'll find my statement is correct.

Did you know also that although Henry VIII's forces defeated James IV at the battle of Flodden and poor James died (very nastily), it was James IV's genes that won in the end...James IV is an ancestor of Elizabeth II whereas Henry VIII is not?

The word 'Britain' has been in use since before Roman times, to indicate the whole island (but not Ireland). The Latin was 'Britannia', and that came from a native word.

Either. You've got to be painted to be a Pict. :lech:

You're confusing the ancient realm of Briton (Arthur, Brian, Iainto the Terrible, McTavish the Ginger etc etc) with The United Kingdom.

DYK that on average an Australian dies every 9 days in Bali?
Guess where I'm off to in 2 days? :haha: I won't however be 'getting on the piss' and riding scooters. Staying well clear of Kuta nightlife.
